ACTION ALERT

Ask Your Legislators to Support Funding for the Emergency Food Assistance Program

Each year more than 400,000 Washingtonians rely on their neighborhood food bank for a reliable source of healthy food.  As the state’s only food bank with a large selection of kosher foods, the food bank at Jewish Family Service, distributes over 100,000 lbs of food to 8500 households each year.

With many families unable to provide necessities like food, neighborhood food banks are becoming more important.  A recent study ranked Washington tenth in the country in the number of hungry residents.  Similarly, more than 260,000 people indicated they experience significant hunger each year.

Ask your State Representative and State Senator to include $1.5 million for the Emergency Food Assistance Program and $7.9 million for statewide food purchase this year.
