Planning and Allocations

The Planning and Allocations Committee is charged with studying the needs of the Jewish community in the areas of health, welfare, Jewish education, and all other areas of interest to the community. To do so it will assess community needs and review how existing agencies and services are meeting these needs; explore and determine unmet needs, both short-term and long-range, and make recommendations as to how these should be met by existing agencies or by new programs. The Planning and Allocations Committee will also review the budgets of existing programs, evaluate their cost and effectiveness relationships and determine the social impact of proposed expansion or contraction of existing programs or services, and recommend the establishment of new programs deemed to be in the communal interest.

Allocation Pillars

Human Need
To ensure that basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter are available to all members of the Jewish community. The purpose is to maintain quality of life for all.

Jewish Education
To ensure Jewish educational opportunities for the entire community, from cradle to grave. The purpose is to encourage an integration of Jewish values and practices into a person's every day life.

Jewish Identity/Community Building
To ensure the existence of programs and services that enhance and promote active participation and/or affiliation within the Jewish community. The purpose is to ensure the development of future community leaders.

World Jewry
To ensure the health, welfare and growth of world Jewry. The purpose is to maintain our partnership with Jewish communities outside the United States through our support of Human Need, Jewish Education, and Jewish Identity/Community Building programs.

Reserves
Ensuring appropriate funding of the capital needs fund, PAC contingency fund, & research fund takes place during the allocations process each year.

2000 Demographic Study

In 2000, the Jewish Federation undertook a Demographic Study of the greater Seattle Jewish population. The Federation makes a significant investment to produce this valuable information every ten years for the use of organizational leaders and planners.

To request a demographic study report, please download the request form or email planningandallocations@jewishinseattle.org or call (206) 774-2243.

Recently, the United Jewish Communities conducted a National Jewish Population Study. Click here to go to their website.
