If you are between 18 and 30 years old with experience
working with children or youth, you can be a summer counselor at an English
camp in the Israeli town of Kiryat Malachi during the month of July in
2008.
The TIPS (Tucson, Israel, Phoenix, and Seattle) Jewish
communities will be running a day camp for 45 children ages 10 through
13 at the
community center of Kiryat Malachi, a town of 22,000 - an hour from
Jerusalem, an hour from Tel Aviv and 15 minutes from the Mediterranean
Sea.
All
children in Israel begin studying English in the 3rd or 4th grade,
but in an overcrowded classroom, the children rarely feel comfortable
speaking
English. This camp will help the children overcome their fear of
English by using songs, cheers, games, theater, and other activities
connected
to a theme day - food day, water day, sports day, etc. The first week is dedicated to an orientation to the town
and work with the Israeli camp director and the Israeli co-counselors
on the finishing
touches of the program. Then follows three weeks of never-ending fun,
work, and high energy activity at the day camp. Each counselor will
be staying with an Israeli family where the food and the warmth generated
by the host family will be overwhelming.
The program offers you a unique
chance to contribute to Israeli society; to experience life in Israel
as an Israeli; to make life long friends;
to work hard in helping Israeli children speak English; and to receive
in return the warmth and friendliness of the real Israel.
$1,000 flight
subsidies are available.
