The Maimonides and Cardozo Societies Host Edwin Black, Monday, September 22, 2003
The Maimonides and Cardozo Societies of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle invite all physicians, dentists, lawyers and judges to join us for dinner and a thought-provoking evening with award-winning investigative journalist Edwin Black, author of War Against the Weak. Black has investigated HMOs, the homeless, the Jonathon Pollard spy scandal, Microsoft antitrust activities, the abduction of journalist Terry Anderson and more. His latest book chronicles the gripping story of America's decades-long campaign to create a white, Nordic master race through a sham science called eugenics. FULL STORY

Israelis Take the Summer Off, Come to Schechter
Iyar Dalva wrote a verse of the Beatles’ “Yesterday” in Hebrew. He then performed the entire song, his fingers strumming on his guitar, in front of the entire Camp Solomon Schechter population at its annual talent show. This Israeli teenager — and the seven others who came with him — spent three weeks romping through 160 acres of Northwest beauty on a program called Noar L’Noar. FULL STORY

YLD Mitzvah Day 2003, Sunday, September 21
Step on Up! Mitzvah Day brings the community together to make a difference, with meaningful, hands-on volunteer opportunities throughout the greater Seattle area. Volunteer projects support Jewish Federation Community Campaign beneficiary agencies, as well as other local agencies. Starting at a new time this year, we'll meet at 11:30 am at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Mercer Island for a hot lunch before departing to project sites.
