Thursday, December 4th - An Evening with William Safire
Please join us as the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle kicks off its 2004 Community Campaign with dinner and a thought-provoking address by William Safire, noted New York Times columnist. Mr. Safire, a political columnist, also writes "On Language" which has appeared in the New York Times Magazine since 1979. Safire brings to his columns not just the background of a journalist, but the unique and wide-ranging experience of a television producer, political speechwriter, historian and intimate of movers and shakers on the world scene. This event will be held at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle.

Where the Money Goes: Hunger hits Kiryat Malachi

"My daughter told me not to come inside here to eat, but I am hungry and I have no food in my home," said the middle-aged woman standing outside of the soup kitchen, formerly the police headquarters of Kiryat Malachi, Israel.
Rabbi Petachia Lipsker, one of the workers of the Meir Panim soup kitchen in Kiryat Malachi, had seen the woman for several days and went outside to talk to her. After listening to her dilemma, he invited her in to help in the kitchen, and when she left, she took a packet of food for her "neighbor." She was therefore able to help others in need have something to eat and not go against her daughter's wishes. READ MORE

Teens have fun this Winter at the Community High School of Jewish Studies!
The new term at Hebrew High starts December 10th! Jewish teens from Sammamish to Shoreline will be taking courses in Judaism, socializing with Jewish friends and having fun. The Community High School of Jewish Studies welcomes all Jewish teens; you do not need to be affiliated with a Synagogue and you do not need to have come in the Fall in order to sign up now. This trimester offers course choices for all types of students ranging from Torah text study, conversational Hebrew, Holocaust Studies, Judaism and the Environment, Jews and Jocks, and Torah Yoga. Volunteer for a Federation Phonathon!
Volunteer for a Federation Phonathon!
Every year, the Jewish Federation organizes monthly phonathons to help us reach out to our donors. Once a month on Sunday mornings, volunteers gather to make phone calls to donors from previous years and solicit gifts to the 2004 Community Campaign. No prior training is necessary. The next phonathon will be on Sunday, December 7 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Each gift touches many lives! Emergency Relief for Turkish Victims of Terrorist Bombing
In response to the twin terrorist bombings at the Neve Shalom and Beth Israel synagogues in Istanbul on the Shabbat of November 15, an emergency fund has been established to assist victims of the attack. When the blasts occurred, families at one synagogue were celebrating a Bar Mitzvah. Both blasts killed at least 23 people and wounded more than 300.
