Greetings from Israel
22 members of the Seattle community are in Israel for a Leadership Mission and the General Assembly meeting in Jerusalem. They are attending a wide range of programs and events at the GA, including day-long trips throughout Israel to visit a sampling of programs relating to social services, advocacy, culture, education and security.

Shalom from Israel. We are all fine and of course the magic of Israel has seeped into our bones again. When we were getting ready to leave for Israel I swore I wouldn't come again for awhile, that we'd pick another place to visit besides Israel. But alas, the land and people have permeated our heart and soul and we are so happy we came. READ MORE

Networking with a Twist
B&P (Business & Professional Women of the Jewish Federation) announce the first forum of the season, an evening of networking at the new Pacific Place location of the Twist Gallery on November 23 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Twist, which sells artist-made objects for everyday life, will not only host the event, but will also donate 10% of the proceeds from any sales which take place that evening. Thursday, December 4th - An Evening with William Safire
Please join us as the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle kicks off its 2004 Community Campaign with dinner and a thought-provoking address by William Safire, noted New York Times columnist. Mr. Safire, a political columnist, also writes "On Language" which has appeared in the New York Times Magazine since 1979. Safire brings to his columns not just the background of a journalist, but the unique and wide-ranging experience of a television producer, political speechwriter, historian and intimate of movers and shakers on the world scene. This event will be held at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle.

It’s YOUR Turn to Learn!
Limmud NW’s Adult Learning program is off to an amazing start! Every Tuesday, over 140 adults gather to open books, study handouts, and discuss meaningful Jewish concepts with each other and with Seattle’s most knowledgeable Jewish educators. Positive comments abound from students and teachers alike. From a student: “I want to thank you for encouraging me to take the Jewish Basics class. My teachers, Rivy and Julie, are incredibly engaging and make the class a joy to attend. I can hardly wait til next Tuesday!” And from a teacher: “The students in my “Problem of Evil” class are great--very lively and energetic…I am very grateful to have the chance to think through these issues with companions!” READ MORE

The Jewish Education Council Creates New Program for Area Educators: The Teacher’s Café
This past Thursday, Carol Oseran Starin, Executive Vice-President for Education and Rivy Poupko Kletenik, Director of Jewish Education Services, hosted the first Teachers Café at the Madison Park Starbucks. Teachers Café is a causal discussion group for teachers of all levels to talk about teaching and learning, tools and techniques. READ MORE

Volunteer for a Federation Phonathon!
Volunteer for a Federation Phonathon!
Every year, the Jewish Federation organizes monthly phonathons to help us reach out to our donors. Once a month on Sunday mornings, volunteers gather to make phone calls to donors from previous years and solicit gifts to the 2004 Community Campaign. No prior training is necessary. The next phonathon will be on Sunday, December 7 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Each gift touches many lives! The Alexander Muss High School in Israel
The Alexander Muss High School in Israel will host an informational presentation for parents and students on Thursday, December 4 at 7pm at the Stroum JCC/Mercer Island. Emergency Relief for Turkish Victims of Terrorist Bombing
In response to the twin terrorist bombings at the Neve Shalom and Beth Israel synagogues in Istanbul on the Shabbat of November 15, an emergency fund has been established to assist victims of the attack. When the blasts occurred, families at one synagogue were celebrating a Bar Mitzvah. Both blasts killed at least 23 people and wounded more than 300.
