Where the Money Goes - Beit Tzipora - Helping Ethiopian Israelis Integrate into Israeli Society
By Dina Tanners, Federation Correspondent
"I love Israel. I lived there from 1971 to 1974 and have visited six times since. This past summer, my husband Howard Cockerham and I decided to do more than just visit, so we were delighted to find a fit with the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and Partnership 2000." READ MORE

Israel is NOT an Apartheid State!
Benjamin Pogrund, Director of the Yakar Center for Social Concern in Jerusalem, and an expert on the subject of apartheid will speak on Monday, October 20th, at 8:00 p.m. at Temple Beth Am. Co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and Temple Beth Am, also in cooperation with the Anti-Defamation League and Congregation Ezra Bessaroth this lecture is free and open to the entire community.
When Benjamin Pogrund, one of the country’s most distinguished journalists, began his career as a young reporter in the 1950’s, the Daily Mail was beginning to emerge as South Africa’s leading newspaper. As the “African affairs reporter,” and eventually deputy editor, it was Pogrund who brought the words of black leaders like Robert Sobukwe and Nelson Mandela to the pages of the Rand Daily Mail. In later years, Pogrund was chief foreign sub-editor of The Independent, London and editor of the World Paper Boston. He immigrated to Israel in 1997 to assume the directorship of the Yakar Center for Social Concern in Jerusalem and applies his South African experience in fostering contact across lines of division.
