Lexi's thoughts on becoming a community philanthropist
I have been a part of J.Team for two years and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in this organization. I wanted to join because everyone in my family is a philanthropist and I thought it would be great for me to give back to the community as well.
I love being a part of J.Team and I feel like I take away so much after every session. Learning about all the different organizations is really interesting and beneficial because it gives me a sense of what I can do for my greater community. Our group of J.Team members has the responsibility of allocating the money in the end, which is such a rewarding process. Being a part of J.Team makes me feel like I am directly helping others. It’s a great feeling and it is a really great group!
Our last organization we visited was Treehouse, which is an organization providing services, clothing, and other necessities for foster children that can help them start fresh in their new home. I really enjoyed the presentation and felt the work the volunteers do to help foster kids is wonderful. I felt passionate about the place and was excited to have the opportunity to help as well. We were given a tour of the Treehouse store, which has a variety of clothes and shoes. It was very organized and spacious and after exploring the organization, in the future I plan on donating my old clothes to Treehouse. Before I didn’t know much but from our presentation and tour I learned a lot!
