Gearing Up for MenschWorks 2011

MenschWorks

Thanks to all of the Mensches who participated in MenschWorks 2010! Now, it's time to start planning for next year and we're looking for energetic, creative volunteer leaders for the 2011 MenschWorks Committee. Click here to learn about MenschWorks and how you can get involved. Contact Cameron Levin at CameronL@JewishInSeattle.org for more information.

Main Event Goes Virtual

While having a party to raise money for a good cause is fun, a party isn't always what Seattle's young Jews are looking for when it comes to giving back to the Jewish community. For the first time ever, Young Leadership hosted a completely virtual Main Event. Past years have seen fancy, black-tie, sit-down dinners, and elaborate poker tournaments. This year, all of the finery was replaced with words from the heart asking Jewish young adults across Seattle to give what they can to support our partner agencies.

YLD Main Event Goes Virtual

For the first time in almost thirty years, we're saving costs by not doing our annual Main Event fundraiser, and taking our important fundraising work virtual! We're asking for your support now because there is no time or resources to waste. And to ensure that we are able to raise the million dollar goal, we are asking everyone to help by giving a gift or giving another small increased gift. We're shooting for 100 donors from Young Leadership. Will you help?

What's Your #Ish?

Being Jewish means something different to everyone. That's the idea behind a newly launched social media campaign called, "What's Your #Ish?" The basic gist is to learn and share how Jews define their Jewish identity and culture.

Whatever being Jewish means to you is your #ish. We invite you to post an "#ish" through Facebook or Twitter and using the "#ish" and "@yldseattle" in your post or tweet. For every #ish that is posted, 25 cents will be donated to the #ish fund at the Jewish Federations of North America.

Special Offer for the Professional Directory to Jewish Washington!

The 2nd annual Professional Directory to Jewish Washington is now accepting listings. This directory is distributed throughout the Jewish community and is a great networking and business development opportunity. In fact, the Jewish Federation staff refers many people in the community to this guide when they are looking for all types of businesses and Jewish professionals.

Helping You Connect

New to Seattle or YLD? Come have coffee with one of our kind souls from the Welcoming Committee! We know that it can be hard to go to an event or a meeting if you don't know anyone, so this is a perfect opportunity to get to know a friendly face.

The Welcoming Committee is here to make sure everyone looking to connect to the Seattle Jewish community is able to find their place. We can tell you more about the Jewish Federation, YLD and other local Jewish young-adult activities.

If you want to set up a coffee date, send an email to YLD Director Cameron Levin at CameronL@JewishInSeattle.org with “Coffee Date” in the subject line and tell us a little bit about yourself. We look forward to meeting you!

Giving

Members who give $1,000 or more to the Community Campaign join the Ben-Gurion Society.

Sports For All

Koren

Meet Koren, an Israeli-Ethiopian immigrant who is learning to play soccer for the first time.

Sports leagues did not exist before Sports for All was launched in Fall 2007 with funds from our Jewish Federation’s Community Campaign.

When you are living with constant air-raid sirens and fear, like Koren and other Israeli children, this outlet becomes all that more important. Your patronage through YLD supports youth programs like this.

Now, kids come together to play, let off steam and build cross-cultural connections and self-esteem.

Lend your support and make a donation today.
