About our efforts Overseas
Wherever Jews are in harm's way – from Georgia to Yemen – the Jewish Federation and our overseas partners have a unique capacity to act quickly in emergencies and for the long haul. From acts of terror and natural disasters to human needs and Jewish identity, Jewish Federation-funded partners are typically the first on the ground and are there to meet needs as long as it takes.
Personnel and programs already on the ground in virtually every part of the world enabled us to provide humanitarian assistance in Georgia during the conflict with Russia and evacuate more than 200 people from the conflict zone to safety.
The last few hundred Jews living in Yemen, have been resettled in Israel and the US. Working with the U.S. State Department and the government of Yemen, we helped Jews leave the country after a spike in intimidation and violence against the Jews, including the murder of a communal leader.
Hesed centers throughout the former Soviet Union (FSU) have become a critical lifeline for the poorest Jews on earth. JDC Hesed welfare centers and mobiles provided desperately needed services, including over 3.4 million meals on wheels to more than 15,300 homebound individuals. Annually, Hesed provides over 5 million hours of homecare—assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, cooking, and cleaning—to more than 21,000 homebound individuals who have no other means of support or social contact. Help support the elderly in need overseas by contributing to the Community Campaign to meet these needs.
