Special Giving Opportunities

Send a Kid to Camp

Jewish overnight camp presents children with the opportunity to mature, gain independence, develop confidence, learn social skills and explore personal interests. Campers explore what Judaism means to them in a safe, nurturing and fun environment and discover a deep-seated and profound sense of what it means to them to be a Jew.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle believes that the Jewish camp experience is an integral component in building a child’s Jewish identity and that all children can greatly benefit from the encounter

Expanding the Number of Birthright Israel Participants From Seattle

Did you know that last year, 99 participated from Seattle on a Birthright Israel program? That’s the good news. The bad news is that 391 applied – and experience has shown that not all of these applicants try again. That means that there are people we could potentially be helping that fall through the cracks. That’s why Birthright Israel requires additional funding to send more students on this amazing program.

Hesed Centers In the Former Soviet Union (FSU)

Hesed centers throughout the former Soviet Union (FSU) have become a critical lifeline for the poorest Jews on earth. In 2002, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee's (JDC’s) network of 174 Hesed welfare centers and 86 Hesed mobiles provided desperately needed services, among them homecare visits to some 27,500 and over 3.4 million meals on wheels to more than 15,300 homebound individuals.

Asia Pacific Disaster Response

JDC is collecting funds on a non-sectarian basis for its relief efforts following two earthquake-related disasters in the Asia Pacific region: in the tsunami-wracked Samoan islands and on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, and the storm-battered Philippines.

JDC is conducting a full and rapid assessment of the situation on the ground, and reaching out to our network of partners to determine critical next steps. JDC will look to fill gaps in humanitarian assistance being provided.

Sports For All

Koren

Meet Koren, an Israeli-Ethiopian immigrant who is learning to play soccer for the first time.

Sports leagues did not exist before Sports for All was launched in Fall 2007 with funds from our Jewish Federation’s Community Campaign.

When you are living with constant air-raid sirens and fear, like Koren and other Israeli children, this outlet becomes all that more important. Your patronage through YLD supports youth programs like this.

Now, kids come together to play, let off steam and build cross-cultural connections and self-esteem.

Expand the Popular “The PJ Library”

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is partnering with local donors and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation to bring The PJ Library to Seattle. Through The PJ Library (PJ is for pajamas), a free high-quality book or CD with Jewish content will be sent each month to families with Jewish children ages 6 months to 5 ½ years.

Originally funded up to 1,000 children registered, the demand has exceeded even our wildest expectations. Please help us not turn away any family wishing to connect and build their Jewish home.

$5,000 will add 500 slots.
