Convening Our Community
Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle works to nurture Jewish identity and build Jewish community. We help develop and leverage the community’s resources to address needs and solve community problems through leadership and encouragement of strategic partnerships.
One of the ways we achieve this is by convening our community: bringing organizations and community representatives together to look at opportunities, solve problems and celebrate community strengths through partnership.
Community Forums
The Jewish Federation convenes a committee of Jewish agency executive directors and board chairs who meet every six weeks to collaborate and solve community problems. Each meeting includes agency-wide professional and volunteer training on such issues as outreach, fundraising, board development and security.
Around Israel
The Jewish Federation convenes the community around issues related to Israel. A regular group, the Israel Programming Committee made up of dozens of representatives from Seattle-area Jewish organizations with Israel on their agendas, meets monthly to increase and enhance awareness of Israel in the community by sharing and coordinating information, resources, and ideas. It supports advocacy and outreach, organizes the community in support of Israel and promotes participation in Israel programs. Learn more about our Israel-related activities. We also train Israel advocates who can speak about important issues at schools, community meetings and to the media.
SAFE Washington
To ensure our readiness for any safety or security threat, the Jewish Federation is convening Jewish agency professionals to develop and implement a community-wide communications and disaster response plan and network. We help agencies identify and develop internal emergency preparedness plans and facilitate regular, ongoing security and emergency discussions, briefings and best practices.
Outreach Initiative
The Jewish Federation convenes community agencies in creating a more welcoming community for the under-engaged and unengaged in our community. Federation has spearheaded a number of outreach training sessions for volunteers and agency staff members.
Synagogue Advisory Council
The Jewish Federation convenes community synagogue rabbis and board chairs, important stakeholders and religious leaders to discuss common challenges and solve community problems together.
Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day)
Each year, the Jewish Federation spearheads the community effort to celebrate and honor Israel’s birthday.
