A major escalation of tension and hostilities took place a few hours ago on the Israel-Lebanon border. Since there were Israeli casualties, a media blackout was in place in Israel on some details until about one hour ago, when this report was prepared.

Israeli Conversion Bill Receives a Six-Month Delay

The Jewish Federations of North America, of which we are a part, hailed a new agreement to delay by six months any conversion bill in Israel, in exchange for a moratorium on any legislation by the liberal religious streams.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shown strong leadership in opposing the conversion bill as being damaging to the unity of the Jewish People. JFNA thanked Netanyahu for his advocacy on this issue.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is deeply disappointed with the Olympia Food Co-Op’s decision to boycott Israeli products without a thoughtful, inclusive discussion with its members and the community at large. We are working with Jewish leaders in Olympia, including Rabbi Seth Goldstein, to support them as needed.
