Stroum Jewish Community Center

Please join Education Services for an evening spent learning about the rich culture of artistry in Israel. Four dynamic Israeli artists will be exploring how to bring Israel into your classroom through art. They come to us through the TIPS Partnership. TIPS carries out projects in Israel and also serves as a way for people in our community to have a positive Israel experience.
The session will focus on the use of Jewish symbols in different mediums, and the beauty of the Israeli landscape. We will explore the use of the Star of David in a variety of pieces, and teachers will create projects that they can recreate in their classrooms. The goal of the evening will be inspiring educators to bring the beauty of Israel to their students through the creation of Judaica inspired art. Special attention will be paid to the holidays of Shabbat, Purim, and Passover.
The artists facilitating this session:
- Sara Haitman: With works focusing on ceramics, paint, jewelry, and sculpture, she will introduce Jewish symbols in art with special interest in the Star of David.
- Yehudit Ogorinsky: Her specialty is mosaics and community projects and she will be facilitating a discussion of mosaic archeological sites and Israeli mosaic artist Ilana Shafir
- Vered Otzmy: Through the medium of papier-mâché, she will discuss bringing Shabbat, Purim, and Passover projects into the classroom
- Ada Buganim: Specializing in event design and prop creation, she will explore Sabbath symbols, traditions and garments
