Action Alert: Urge the Washington House and Senate to Support the Compromise Revenue Proposal
After weeks of negotiating, the Washington State Legislature has put together a budget package that relies on $800 million in new revenue to avoid devastating cuts to Washington's safety net for children, families, older adults, and our educational system. Many of the clients served by the Jewish community's social service agencies — from Jewish Family Service to the Caroline Kline Galland Home — depend on the programs and services that will be saved because of this compromise. The compromise proposal closes unnecessary tax loopholes and increases targeted taxes on cigarettes, candy, soda, gum and bottled water.
The Jewish Federation has been an active member of a broad-based coalition of human service agencies and public interest groups supporting targeted revenue that would prevent deep cuts to the programs important to our community's organizations.
Please take a moment now to send a message to your legislators urging them to support the compromise revenue and budget package that will be considered by the legislature in the next few days.
You can also speak to your elected officials on the Washington State Legislative Hotline (1-800-562-6000) and ask your representatives and senator to support the proposed revenue compromise.
