Evening Cardozo Society CLEs at Torahthon
The Cardozo Society of Washington State is pleased to partner with Herzl-Ner Tamid's upcoming community-wide learning event, Torahthon 5, to host our next two CLEs on November 9, Jewish Law vs. American Law: Some Tensions Between Them & Can We Still Have Faith in Church-State Separation?
7:15pm - Jewish Law vs. American Law: Some Tensions Between Them
David Balint will be giving an introduction on the differences in the Jewish system of administering justice and the American system. The two specific examples discussed will be mesirah, the prohibition of informing the civil government of the wrongdoing of fellow Jews; and the problem of enforcing the requirement of a Jewish bill of divorce (a get) in American courts. 1 CLE Credit.
8:30pm - Can We Still Have Faith in Church-State Separation?
Michelle Deutchman will be leading an interactive session examining why church/state separation is important for Jews and how recent litigation, legislation and executive orders undermine the wall that separates the two. 1 CLE Credit.
Pre-registration strongly encouraged.
Torahthon 5 is a 3 day event on November 2, 9 and 16. The Torahthon is the only adult education event in the city where people of all denominations come together to learn. A range of courses will be offered, focusing on everything from the Torah, Jewish morals, American politics and more!
