Madison Market Defeats Israeli Products Boycott Proposal

After several months of deliberations, the board of the Madison Market co-op in the Capitol Hill neighborhood voted last night to reject a proposed boycott on all Israeli products. Many local Jewish agencies, along with countless individuals, expressed their disapproval of the proposal by speaking at board meetings and participating in a letter-writing campaign led by StandWithUs Northwest. The Jewish Federation wishes to express its support of Madison Market for voting against the proposal. By doing so, they have chosen not to blame Israel for the difficult situation faced by both Israelis and Palestinians—rather, they acknowledge that the issue is a complicated one in which no one party is solely at fault. They are also making the important decision to let consumers decide for themselves which products they prefer to buy. Please join us in expressing our thanks to Madison Market for recognizing that boycotts are divisive and have no place on the road to lasting peace. board [at] madisonmarket [dot] coop (Click here) to write a note of support to Madison Market.
