Phone-a-thon Raises $50,000
Wednesday night's 7th Inning Stretch Phone-a-thon was an amazing success! A big thanks to all the volunteers, including a dozen teens from BBYO, that helped out. Together, we raised over $50,000 toward our 2010 Community Campaign.
Our guest speaker, Searle Brajtman, shared some very compelling stories about the conditions for Jews in the former Soviet Union and the impact our funds make. Searle is one of the longest-serving members of JDC's FSU team and has traveled extensively throughout the former Soviet Union, from the Baltics in the west to Kamchatka in the east.
The poverty is the former Soviet Union is remarkable. One of the stories Searle shared with us was of a man who wore the same pair of glasses for 45 years because he couldn't afford a replacement. (His glasses are pictured below.) What would you do if you lived on a $195 a month pension?
You can still help make a difference for so many in poverty around the world. Donate today.
