Small & Simple Grants Make Big Impact

Congratulations to the six organizations who just received word that they are recipients of a “Small and Simple Grant” from the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. A total of $23,000 in grants was distributed across six local Jewish organizations in the greater Seattle area. The grant recipients, alphabetically, are as follows:

  • $5,000 to Hillel’s Kolenu Program, expanding outreach to the GLBTQ community at Hillel UW.
  • $5,000 to the Jewish Federation for JKIDS Hanukkah Pajama Jam with the JCC.
  • $5,000 to Kavana’s Jewish Identity Workshops, a new program designed to reach out to young Jews exploring their connection to Judaism.
  • $1,500 to the Seattle Hebrew Academy SHAzam! Program, a new outreach program for Jewish children grades 3-8.
  • $1,500 to Sephardic Bikur Holim for “Community Awareness of Effect of the Holocaust on Sephardic Jewry.”
  • $5000 to the Stroum Jewish Community Center for “Voices of Hope,” a new cultural arts program for 8-16 year olds.

The Small and Simple Grant, named for their easy application process and quick turnaround time, focus on new or the expansion of current services and demonstration projects, or one-time, non-capital purchases by Jewish organizations in the greater Puget Sound area. These grants are outside of our regular grant allocation system, allowing greater flexibility and creativity. No one project or program was eligible for more than $5,000.

The grants are from the Special Initiatives Fund which is part of the Jewish Community Endowment at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.
