Guns taken from the home by children have been at the heart of some of the most tragic gun violence incidents in our state, including at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. Unsecured guns in the home also lead to some of the most horrific incidents of kids accidentally shooting their friends. And, most youth suicide attempts are committed with an unsecured gun in the home.
More than 75 percent of youth suicide attempts occur with guns found in the home and 65 percent of school shooters obtained their weapons within their own or a relative's home.
But we can do something. We can help keep guns out of the hands of children and criminals and ensure those who want to use assault weapons and high-capacity magazines undergo more stringent background checks.
Save lives now. Tell your representatives to support HB 1122, Dangerous Access Prevention, and HB 1387, Enhanced Background Checks.
Judaism places the highest importance on the preciousness of human life. We are commanded at all costs to protect, preserve and sustain life. The Talmud teaches us that "he who takes one life it is as though he has destroyed the universe and he who saves one life it is as though he has saved the universe" (Mishnah Sanhedrin 4:5).
Please, help us prevent gun violence and save lives.
