Volunteer Spotlight: Mishala Horowitz

Mishala took her first dive into volunteering with the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle at Connections 2011, the annual signature outreach and fundraising event for Jewish women in the greater Seattle area, on January 30 and loved it. She was impressed by the impact of the causes the event supported and the importance of philanthropy. Currently a junior at Skyline High School, Mishala is active in BBYO.

She helped sell raffle tickets and register attendees at the event. Of the experience, Mishala declared, "Volunteering is fun and is a great opportunity to meet people and have a good time." Mishala plans to continue to volunteer at events in the future. She thought of it as just one way to thank the Jewish Federation for a grant that allowed her to participate in a four-month program, NFTY-EIE High School in Israel, where she took Hebrew and Jewish History in addition to her regular high school classes.

To anyone interested in volunteering, Mishala recommends meeting up with someone at the Jewish Federation to understand what the organization does and what options are available that apply to your interests.

Volunteering is fun and important. There are numerous opportunities available so finding one that interests you should be easy. Check out our volunteer opportunities at www.JewishInSeattle.org/Volunteer or contact Blair at BlairF [at] JewishInSeattle [dot] org.
