Let us empower you to be a powerful teacher...get certified by Education Services!
Education Services at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is proud to announce that Michal Comisioneru and Kimberly Lustig have completed all requirements for the 2011 Jewish Teaching Certificate Program. They have put in numerous hours in the classroom (100 hours) and countless hours on individual work to receive the certificate and we would like to congratulate them for their accomplishment.
The goal of Education Services at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is to prepare high quality, skilled professional educators who will serve the greater Seattle Jewish community.
The Jewish Teaching Certification offers Jewish teachers the opportunity to earn a teaching certification in recognition of 100 hours of learning in various core competency areas. These include pedagogy, Jewish studies and Hebrew. Upon completion of the Jewish Teaching Certification recipients will receive a stipend based upon 10% of their yearly salary*. For recipients in volunteer teaching positions there are special arrangements. The stipend is a yearly award to those recipients who engage in 20 hours a year of continuing education through Education Services.
The 100 hours of learning required are to be divided as follows:
A. Courses, sessions and learning provided and supervised by JEC:
- 40 hours - Pedagogy training
- 10 hours – Portfolio (journal of your learning process and teaching along with personal reflections).
- 6 hours – Book reflections (two books)
- 4 hours – Two in class observations by trained educator
B. Education Services or Education Service approved courses and events:
- 40 hours of Jewish and Hebrew studies -Jewish Studies teachers will be required to have 8 hour of course work in Hebrew reading or a competency exam for exemption. With the Hebrew requirement exempt teachers must still fulfill the 40 hour Jewish Studies requirement. o Hebrew teachers will be required to have 8 hours of training in Teaching Hebrew as a second language as a part of their 40 hour requirement.
You have the opportunity to plan your learning according to your particular needs and the Education Services requirements.
Education Services will publish an ongoing listing of the classes and events that are being offered both by Education Services and Jewish community organizations.
