Teaching the Holocaust – Messages for Jewish Children Today
with Ilana Cone Kennedy
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
6:30pm – 9:00 p.m.
Stroum Jewish Community Center
3801 E. Mercer Way
Mercer Island, WA 98040
Education Services partners with the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center to facilitate a session addressing Jewish students’ difficult questions about the Holocaust.
We will explore how to convey big ideas about the Holocaust which resonate with today’s students. We will delve into approaches to their most common questions:
How did it happen? Why didn’t they all leave? And why didn’t they fight back?
Methods and resources for teaching the Holocaust for middle grades and up will be provided. All teachers should examine the ways in which we help the next generation bear witness.
This session of the Jewish Studies Course costs $18; scholarships are available.
Please RSVP by May 18 to JennaO [at] jewishinseattle [dot] org (subject: Holocaust%20Ed%205_22) (Jenna Oates) at (206) 774-2251. Light refreshments will be served.
This event is open to all educators and teachers in greater Seattle.
STARS and JTC credits are available. CLOCK hours may be earned for this session if you attended/will attend at least one other Jewish Studies session.
