Tom Hershko had spent the day with his father, Mordechai, after accompanying him to a job interview when the terrorist struck.
"They were the best of friends," Tom's mother, Ruth, said. "I'm sure they are looking out for one another now from above."
A graphics student at the Hannah Szenes ORT School, Tom was the only child of his parents, who had been divorced for 8 years. He lived with his mother, but maintained close contact with his father. "They studied karate together and enjoyed spending hours in each other's company," said Ruth. "He was a splendid father."
Ruth related how Tom had happily phoned from the bus to tell her he and his father were bringing her a surprise. "He'll take this surprise with him to the grave," she said, but noted that she had also planned to greet Tom with a surprise. "He loved to surf the Internet, and yesterday I had him connected to the fast Internet cable service. Now nobody will use it."
Tom and Motti are buried side by side in Haifa.

תום הרשקו, בן 16 מחיפה.נהרג באוטובוס הדמים יחד עם אביו מוטי. השניים נסעו בבוקר ל''יום כיף'' בנתניה. תום, שאהב יותר מכל לבלות עם אביו, התקשר לאמו כשהוא נשמע מאושר. ''הוא סיפר לי שהם נוסעים בקו 37 וכשיגיע, יש לו הפתעה בשבילי. את ההפתעה הזאת הוא ייקח עמו לקבר'', סיפרה האם בדמעות. גם רות ביקשה להפתיע את בנה. ''תום אהב לגלוש באינטרנט ואתמול חיברתי אותו לאינטרנט המהיר דרך הכבלים. עכשיו כבר איש לא ישתמש בזה''. תום, תלמיד המגמה הגרפית בביהס אורט חנה סנש, היה בן יחיד להוריו, שהתגרשו לפני מספר שנים מאז דאג האב לשמור עמו על קשר הדו. ''הם הלכו ביחד לחוג קראטה, ונהנו לשהות שעות אחד עם השני. הוא היה אבא מקסים'', אמרה האם רות. ''אני מתכוונת לרכוש חלקת קבר לידם, וכשיגיע זמני נהיה בבית הקברות, שלושתנו ביחד''. אלי דוד, גיסו של האב שנהרג, סיפר כי תום ואביו ''היו חברים. היה ביניהם קשר מיוחד. זה היה נראה לא טבעי בעינינו אם מישהו מהם היה נהרג והאחר היה נותר בחיים. הם ממש, בחייהם ובמותם לא נפרדו''
