The next several weeks are a special time for Israel, when both solemn observances and festive celebrations fill the calendar. It’s a perfect time for all of us in the Puget Sound Jewish community to come together for a celebration of the bonds of kinship and friendship we have with our Jewish homeland.
Tomorrow is the opening of #NWIsraelFest, two-plus weeks focused on all things Israel – commemorations of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) and Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day), Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day) celebrations, social gatherings, educational events – even a live performance of Israel Story, which is Israel’s version of the popular NPR program “This American Life.”
The Federation is proud to lead the collaboration with Jewish organizations in our region that is bringing this unique event to our community. Since the founding of the Jewish state in 1948, the Federation has made it a high priority to advocate for Israel, and to help our community make personally meaningful connections to Israel. Part of our mission at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is to strengthen local connections to Israel and World Jewry. One way we do that is by bringing Israel’s culture and heritage alive, through events like #NWIsraelFest.
You can see the full lineup of #NWIsraelFest events here. I encourage you to take a look at the schedule, mark your calendar, and be a part of this community-wide celebration of the land that always has a special place in our hearts.
