Be a Part of the Jewish Future: Create a Lasting Personal Legacy
All of us who care about Jewish life care about it for many reasons. We care because we have a deep and abiding connection to our Jewish community — at home, in Israel, and everywhere that Jews gather. We believe the Jewish values of tzedakah and tikkun olam are moral imperatives to help the less fortunate, be a voice for the voiceless, and to pursue justice. We want to pass on our values, faith, traditions, and heritage to our children and grandchildren.
Endowments are the key to ensuring that Jewish life is vibrant and thriving when today’s toddlers are tomorrow’s community elders, by ensuring the long-term financial security of Jewish organizations that provide the programs and services critical for Jewish life. The Federation supports endowments in two ways – through the Seattle Jewish Community Endowment Fund and the LIFE & LEGACY™ program.
SEATTLE JEWISH COMMUNITY ENDOWMENT FUND
Endowments are the gift that keeps on giving to Jewish life. Individual, family, and organizational endowments managed by the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle are a vital source of support for local Jewish organizations, totaling over $2 million in 2018. Federation stewardship of endowments within the Seattle Jewish Community Endowment Fund offers value for Jewish philanthropists and organizations that is not available anywhere else. No other non-profit organization in the Puget Sound region has a greater understanding of Jewish organizations or charitable giving to programs in Israel. In addition, the fund offers options that provide maximum tax and cost-effectiveness benefits.
The Seattle Jewish Community Endowment Fund has $68.9 million under management. Guidance is provided by the Federation Investment Committee, made up of financial, legal, and accounting professionals adhering to the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and best practices. The majority of funds are managed by SEI, an investment services firm with over $300 billion in assets under management globally. SEI ensures that investment assets align with Jewish values, are socially responsible, and are cognizant of human rights concerns.

LIFE & LEGACY™ PROGRAM
Endowments will be increasingly important for ensuring the financial security of Jewish organizations and the programs and services they provide to the Puget Sound Jewish community. LIFE & LEGACY is a four-year legacy giving and endowment building program the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is carrying out in partnership with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. The program gives participating Jewish organizations tools, training, and motivation to integrate after-lifetime giving into their philanthropic cultures. The LIFE & LEGACY cohort comprises 13 participating organizations, including the Federation. LIFE & LEGACY is collaborative by design. By learning together, participating organizations leverage our community’s knowledge, skills, and experience to grow their endowments and assure the future of Jewish life.
