Erin Gruwell is a teacher, an author, and an activist who has been fighting for social justice for over two decades. In 1999, Erin and her students, the Freedom Writers, published their book, The Freedom Writers Diary, which detailed their unique journey from hardship to hope. Erin and her students studied The Diary of Anne Frank, and their journey became an inspiring path toward finding common ground against hatred and building a more just world. The book became a #1 New York Times bestseller and was adapted into a major motion picture, Freedom Writers, starring two-time Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank as Erin.
By attending Connections in person, you will be entered into a raffle to win a signed copy of Erin’s latest book, Dear Freedom Writer.
