We will provide snacks\, drinks\, and fun crafts for kids\, along with plenty of time to catch up with friends and meet new community members. We’ll head out into the orchard to pick apples* after our gathering at noon\, but feel free to arrive early if you’d prefer to pick before we meet!*For security\, the location will be shared closer to the event. \n\n\n\n**U-Pick apple prices are based on weight. Each year\, volunteers like you help us provide healthy food—with dignity and respect—to neighbors throughout the Puget Sound region. \n\n\n\nWhy Your Help Matters \n\n\n\nDemand at the JFS Polack Food Bank is at an all-time high. This summer\, 337 people visited the food bank in a single day—the number of guests we used to serve in a week. \n\n\n\nFood insecurity is rising across Washington\, with food bank visits up 70% since 2021. Meanwhile\, food donations and funding are decreasing\, and federal cuts to programs like SNAP are deepening the crisis. \n\n\n\nYour support helps keep our shelves stocked and our neighbors fed.

DESCRIPTION:This 36-session course is a survey of Jewish texts\, practices\, ideas\, and history\, taught by rabbis from across Washington State from a variety of denominations\, backgrounds\, and work experiences. This class is suitable for all adult learners\, including those exploring Judaism personally (including possible conversion)\, those looking to add depth to their Jewish identity\, those partnered with Jews or part of Jewish families\, or those just interested in learning more about Judaism. Class is taught on Sundays\, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.\, exclusively on Zoom. Each session is recorded for future reference and if you should miss a class. Described as “a sly young comic from Kentucky” by The New York Times\, Ariel has also been featured in Rolling Stone\, The Washington Post\, and on Good Morning America. As a traveling stand up comedian\, she has performed on the set of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel\, and was named a “New Face” at the 2021 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. DESCRIPTION:Different Trains\, by American composer Steve Reich\, who celebrates his 90th birthday this fall\, captures the sounds and voices that Reich remembered from the cross-country trains of his childhood trips between his separated parents during World War II. He juxtaposes them with echoes of the transports that were carrying European children to a very different fate. Iranian American composer Sahba Aminikia’s Stormy Seas\, an MOR commission\, tells the compelling true stories of five child boat refugees who braved perilous waters in search of safety and freedom in new lands. Songs from the collection We Go On\, Oswego\, are a tribute to the women who escaped Nazi persecution and received shelter in the only refugee camp in America during WWII.
