Preserving Jewish History in Washington State
Founded in 1981, with roots dating back to the Seattle Jewish Archives Project established in 1968, Washington State Jewish Historical Society (WSJHS) has spent decades preserving and sharing the stories and contributions of Jewish life throughout Washington State. Through oral histories, exhibitions, publications, educational programs, and archival preservation, the WSJHS helps ensure that our community’s history is documented and accessible for future generations.
A New Chapter
In 2026, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society became integrated into the Federation’s portfolio of meaningful programs. This integration allows WSJHS to continue its important work with the support and resources of the Federation while expanding opportunities to preserve and share the history of Jewish life throughout Washington State. To learn more about the integration of WSJHS into the Federation, read our announcement.
The Washington State Jewish Historical Society website remains the primary home for its exhibitions, oral histories, publications, collections, events, and educational resources. Visit wsjhs.org to learn more.
Support Jewish History
The Washington State Jewish Historical Society continues its important work through the generosity of donors who value preserving our community’s history. If you are interested in supporting this program, restricted gifts can be made through the Federation’s online donation form.
