Jewish American Heritage Month Resources

Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) offers a unique opportunity to support the Jewish community by highlighting the central experiences and stories of our Jewish neighbors, families, and friends, along with celebrating the history and contributions of the Jewish people. Please use the following resources in your community, also share them with your student’s school leadership, elected representatives, and community leaders so they can engage with Jewish American Heritage Month.

Let’s make this a meaningful month of inclusion together!

Tools from the Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) for Families and Educators to Bring JAHM Into Classrooms and Spark Meaningful Conversation

  • Jewish American Heritage Month Letter to Schools The JCRC sent this letter to all 313 school districts, ESDs, tribal schools and charter networks in Washington state as well as 25 targeted independent schools in the Puget Sound region. Share this letter with your school’s leadership to  encourage them to celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) in May, offering support and resources to highlight Jewish voices, including those from Jewish AANHPI communities, and to share success stories from other districts.
  • Recommendations for Jewish American Heritage Month Explore recommendations for celebrating JAHM in schools, including events, educational resources, and community engagement opportunities, curated by the Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council.
  • Book and Author Recommendations for Jewish American Heritage Month – This is a non-exhaustive list of books that celebrates aspects of Jewish identity or Jewish historical figures, divided by the suggested reading age group. There is also a list of Jewish authors who write about both Jewish identity and other subject areas. Please share this list with your school librarian to create a display of books that center Jewish American identities and peoplehood and a display of famous Jewish authors!
