Jewish American Heritage Month

Resources

Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) is a unique opportunity to highlight the history of Jewish Americans and to celebrate their contributions to our country. We have created a collection of educational resources that you can share with your community leaders, your school administration and educators, and elected representatives so they can engage with Jewish American Heritage Month. Let’s make this a meaningful month of inclusion together!

This is a non-exhaustive list of books that celebrate aspects of Jewish identity or Jewish historical figures, divided by the suggested reading age group. Please share this list with your school librarian to create a display of books that center Jewish American identities and peoplehood and a display of famous Jewish authors!

  • Send an action alert to your school district’s leadership, encouraging them to celebrate JAHM and offering resources to highlight Jewish history and voices this month.
  • Ask your school library to put up a book display that features stories about Jewish identity and Jewish authors. Use the PJ Library and PJ Our Way book lists to create a dedicated shelf of Jewish-authored or Jewish-themed stories.
  • Ask your student’s teacher to put up posters (set one) or posters (set two) that highlight influential Jewish leaders, both past and present.
  • Donate a book about Jewish heritage to the classroom or school library.
