Reflections from Federation’s President & CEO

July 24, 2025

Dear Community,

I invite you to join Jewish Federations of North America tomorrow morning at 9 am for a special briefing on the humanitarian aid situation in Gaza. This briefing will look at the facts on the ground and the challenges facing aid distribution. You can register here.

This week, I am especially thankful for the incredible women who make such a powerful impact in our community. Last Sunday, we celebrated the strong leadership and philanthropic impact of women at the annual Pamela Waechter z”l Lion of Judah Luncheon

The Lions of Judah were started in 1972 by two visionary women from Miami – Norma Kipnis Wilson and Toby Friedland, both of blessed memory. Their dream at the time was revolutionary – they imagined women as leaders, investing in the future of the next generations. Today, their dream lives on through the Lions of Judah, a global sisterhood of women who sustain our community. Here in Seattle, it was inspiring to look around the room and see so many women of all ages connecting and supporting the Federation’s work.

The Federation’s work to bring our community together has also been happening recently during a series of PJ Library Parent Connectors’ summer meetups, which have brought together local Jewish families with young children. The young families connected with each other over fun activities – from reading PJ Library books together, to picking fresh blueberries at local farms, to playing in the water by the beach or the wading pool. These events are designed to link PJ families within their geographical neighborhoods, strengthening our community connections and creating meaningful friendships.

L’shalom, and thank you for being part of our work.
