Meet Ayli Meyer-Uri, Loeb Leadership Institute Fellow!

April 7, 2025

The Francine R. Loeb Leadership Institute (LLI) is the Federation’s year-long training program that prepares emerging Jewish leaders for future service. LLI Fellows develop the skills to make a lasting impact in the community through board service, workshops, and personalized mentorship.

Meet Ayli Meyer-Uri, a member of the 2025-2026 LLI cohort, and find out why she decided to join the program after moving to Seattle five years ago!

What inspired you to apply for the Loeb Leadership Institute?

After moving to the Pacific Northwest five years ago, I saw opportunities for more collaboration and cohesion within the Jewish community. I decided to apply to the Loeb Leadership Institute, hoping to gain the skills necessary to make a positive change in our community.

What has been the most meaningful experience or moment during your fellowship so far?

Meeting and listening to the experiences of the other fellows. Learning from them and their experiences on their own boards has been like a crash course on different board cultures. It has allowed me to learn best practices in a short amount of time.

How do you hope to apply what you’ve learned to make an impact in the community?

I hope to continue serving on the boards of Jewish organizations and help guide them towards more inclusivity of transplants and young families. Our Jewish community is so diverse, and our programs and offerings should reflect that.

How has the program shaped your perspective on leadership in the Jewish community?

I think I’ve learned a great deal about Jewish leadership and the skills necessary to be an effective leader. I’ve learned this through our learning labs (as a cohort) and through observations of many forward-thinking leaders.

Anything else you would like to add about your experience in the program?

I think this is an incredible program that is much needed in every community. Leading requires so much more than just desire. This program is teaching us the skills necessary to become strong Jewish leaders so our generation can ensure the continuity of our communal organizations and programs.

Born in South Africa, Ayli Meyer-Uri spent three years on a kibbutz in Israel before moving back to South Africa and then to Houston, Texas. As a wandering Jew, she has lived in Los Angeles, New York, Central California, Phoenix, and now Seattle for the past five years. Ayli has worked as a special needs Jewish educator, Holocaust curriculum writer, Jewish Student Life coordinator for Hillel, freelance writer, TV news producer/director, software consultant, and project manager. In her spare time, Ayli and her family love to be out in nature exploring many beautiful trails the area has to offer. Fun fact: Ayli used to dance competitively.

As part of her training in the 2025-2026 LLI cohort, Ayli is building real-life leadership skills through her board residency at Kline Galland.
