Meet the Federation’s New Board Chair
We are pleased to welcome Gabriel Scherzer as the new Chair of the Federation’s Board of Directors! A dedicated board member since 2020, Gabe brings decades of leadership experience and community engagement to this role.

I look forward to partnering with our board, Solly, and the rest of the Federation’s staff, in supporting this important work.”
Gabe began his term by joining the Federation’s President and CEO Solly Kane for an emergency fly-in of Jewish leaders to Washington D.C. just two weeks ago. During this brief emergency trip, they met with lawmakers to advocate for stronger security protections for the Jewish community and asked them to take action.
Beyond his service with the Federation, Gabe serves as secretary of the board and member of the executive committee of the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Washington State and is also a member of the AIPAC Washington State Council.
Professionally, Gabe built a successful career in the aviation industry and related tech industries, most recently as part-owner of a small software company. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, a B.S. from the University of California, Riverside, and certificates from the University of Washington Professional & Continuing Education programs.

As we welcome Gabe, we also want to thank Lisa Brashem for her incredible leadership as Board Chair over the past two years. Lisa led the Federation’s board through an exceptionally challenging period – navigating the changing world after the October 7 attacks, the rapid rise in antisemitism, the recent war between Israel and Iran, and a CEO transition. A board member for over a decade, our entire community has benefited from Lisa’s commitment to Jewish Seattle.
